Ammonium orthomolybdate is a white solid with the chemical formula (NH₄)₂MoO₄, prepared by treating molybdenum trioxide with aqueous ammonia. Upon heating, ammonia is lost to form ammonium heptamolybdate, with a chemical formula of (NH4)6Mo7O24.
